LIGHTtalk: Power of Photonics presents:

Light in Life
an open workshop

3 March 2016,  from 14:00 to 18:00
Academy of Sciences of Moldova
1 Stefan cel Mare Blvd., Chisinau, MD-2001, Rep. of Molodova (map)

Some laboratory discoveries make a long way to reach their primary beneficiaries – the society and thus to be applied in our everyday life. The game changes when it comes to progress in photonics, as the field of light applications is rapidly developing and strongly correlated with the achievements in the experimental research.

Following the series of LIGHTtalks events that took place in different European countries, the Institute of Applied Physics organized on March 3, 2016 the workshop “Light in life”. It was a LIGHTtalk: “Power of Photonics” event in the framework of LIGHT2015 project founded to mark the International Year of Light (check the “About” section for more information).  Here, the scientific community and industry engineers gather to bring forward and discuss various applications of photonics, their significance and impact to our everyday life. The workshop aimed to highlight innovative, pioneering and efficient technological applications present in Moldavian research and industry of photonics.

Light in Life workshop was organized by the Institute of Applied Physics in association with Agency for Innovation and Technology Transfer and:

2015 was declared the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies by the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on 20 December 2013. A resolution that recognize: “the importance of light and light-based technologies in the lives of the citizens of the world and for the future development of global society on many levels” and the prominence of enhancing global awareness of how science and technologies of light can address a large scale of global challenges and improve the quality of life worldwide.

With the generic of the Year of Light, the European project LIGHT2015 was initiated in the framework of Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme of the European Commission. It aims to promote the importance of photonics through a series of inspirational events called LIGHTtalks. It addresses different social groups like young people, industry and entrepreneurs, students and researchers as well as the general public. The LIGHTtalk: “Power of Photonics” events are focused on the industry and particularly on multidisciplinary technological and scientific topics generated by both scientific and industry communities. The main goal of these events is to show the large diversity of innovational and profitable technological potentials of photonics that brings value into industry.
